    Camping in France

    Under canvas

France has 9,000 1- to 4-star campsites, in
farms or elsewhere… a vast choice of places to pitch camp. And if you don't
have a tent, many campsites hire out tents, caravans and bungalows. The
official campsite guide can be bought from the Fédération Française de

    Under the stars

True enough, it’s fantastic to drift off to
sleep to the sound of the waves on a balmy summer night. But remember, rough
camping is not allowed on beaches, at the roadside, at classified beauty spots,
in nature reserves and parks, etc. But you can camp rough on private land if
you have the owner’s permission. An excellent excuse to knock on people’s doors
and get to know the locals!
