Rendez-vous at the J1 in Marseille

The J1 is an enormous hangar in Marseille’s port area situated between the J4 esplanade and the Joliette district, made available for the European Capital of Culture by the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille.

After undergoing renovation work, the hangar opened to the public for the first time in 2013. It is a major venue at the heart of the city’s bustling port life, right alongside the docking ferries. On the upper level of the building, an immense 6,000m² platform welcomes:

    • an exhibition space of 2,500m²
    • the Seafront Factory (home to La Jetée Gallery, the Quayside Gallery and the Living in the Midi Gallery)
    • areas for younger audiences
    • an artistic and cultural event centre (for conferences, lectures, performances and concerts)
    • an information centre
    • a bookstore
    • a bar-restaurant with a breathtaking view of the port and beyond!

From January 12 to May 18, 2013 (exhibition Mediterraneans) then from October 11, 2013 to January 12, 2014 (exhibition Le Corbusier)
