    Avenue de Champagne

The avenue that flows with bubbles.

The history of Epernay has been intertwined with the history of champagne since 1729, the year in which Nicolas Ruinait opened the first champagne house, producing those famous bubbles. Lined with Renaissance and classical style buildings, the Avenue de Champagne brings together the major champagne houses who produce and sell this wine. Above the dozens of kilometres of chalk tunnels which run beneath the town, you will find, among other brands, the headquarters of Moet and Chardon, and Mercier.
Some of the champagne houses offer guided tours of their cellars: don't miss out.
