    Notre-Dame la Grande Church

    A real jewel.

Its name came from Sainte-Marie-Majeure de Rome... Admire the sculptures of the façade, built in the 11th and 12th centuries, which are real jewels of Poitou Romanesque art (with a noticeable influence from Saintongeais art).
The décor, carved in golden limestone, is very lively and varies according to the time of day.

In the summer, for a quarter of an hour, lights colour the façade at nightfall, a modern echo of the polychromy of the Mediaeval façades.
    Fourteen different versions exist!

From Notre-Dame-la-Grande, three strokes of colour appearing on the pavement lead the visitors to the other architectural treasures of Poitiers.
