    Mont Saint-Michel

    A Wonder of the West.

Between Normandy and Brittany, the commune of Mont-Saint-Michel, perched on its rocky tidal island, is a Unesco world heritage monument, and is the third most visited place in France, with 3.5 million visitors each year.

Perched amid the wide sandy beaches with some of the strongest tides in Europe, in the fertile bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, the rocky island is dominated by the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, a "wonder of the West" which was built in 966 in honour of the archangel Saint Michael.

The splendid architecture of the abbey will surely captivate you with its style which varies from Romanesque to flamboyant Gothic, and which was once one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the medieval West.

Surrounded by ramparts, the medieval town of Mont-Saint-Michel invites you to lose yourself in its charming narrow streets full of shops, among them the auberge de la Mère Poulard whose omelette is legendary.

Visit Mont-Saint-Michel, and conquer this emblematic place in France, shaped by history and by nature, surround by a thousand mysteries and legends...
